What is ePukapuka?
ePukapuka is the name of a Lower North Island ebook project using Overdrive to supply ebooks and downloadable audiobooks to library members.
Ebooks and digital audiobooks are books that are published in an electronic format (text or audio) which you can download and enjoy on your computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, or ereader.
These digital books are free to use if you are a Porirua Library member.
How do I use ePukapuka?
To access the ePukapuka collection of digital books you need to be a Porirua Library member and have a PIN or password attached to your library account.
If you do not have a library PIN or password already then please just ask a librarian to add one for you. (Please note that if you have overdue items or charges owing on your card you may be blocked from logging in.)
You can borrow a digital book from ePukapuka for a period of 7 days, 14 days or 21 days – it is up to the borrower to choose.
You can borrow up to 5 digital books at once.
If the item you want is out, you can reserve it and you will be notified when it is available to borrow.
What devices can I use to read or listen to ePukapuka items?
You use almost any device to enjoy digital books from ePukapuka: a smartphone or tablet, a laptop, or a desktop computer and an ereader.
Audiobooks work very well on a smartphone, and ebooks are easy to view on any modern tablet or laptop. You can use an ereader too, of course, along with a desktop computer.
What software do I need to use ePukapuka?
To use ePukapuka you will need to download and install software from Overdrive suitable for the device you will use to read or listen to the digital book.
Do you have a smartphone, tablet or Windows 10 PC? Then Meet Libby, the new app from OverDrive that makes reading or listening to digital books fast and easy. You can use the Libby app to read or listen to everything on ePukapuka.
Read a guide to Getting started with Libby.
If you already use the OverDrive app then you can keep using it (but Libby is faster and easier to use).
You will have to use the OverDrive app if you have a device that is not compatible with the Libby app.
If you use an eReader to read ebooks, then go to the Overdrive website to find out how to use your Windows or Mac computer to transfer ebooks from ePukapuka to your device. Kindles are not compatible with OverDrive so you cannot use ePukapuka with a Kindle.
Please ask a librarian if you need help using ePukapuka.
