This page describes the Housebound Services available from Porirua Library.
Porirua Libraries' housebound service is a free home delivery service for those who cannot physically visit our library branches. We offer this service to patrons who meet one of the criteria below:
We can support your library visits by providing easily accessible library buildings and helping you to select and borrow items suited to your needs.
Once part of the service, our Housebound Library Assistant will keep in contact to ensure your requirements are met. Please note: your library account is managed by the Housebound Library Assistant and/or your elected person to ensure items are returned on time and to access your borrowing history to best select items for you.
This service is entirely free and covers the whole of Porirua. However, please be aware that resources are limited and there may be a waiting list.
Housebound patrons are eligible for an extended loan period of 42 days, with exceptions on popular or high demand items such as but not limited to DVDs, magazines, and new books.
We can discuss your particular needs during the application process, but have listed below some of our most popular housebound items,
Ideally you can elect a friend, relative, or neighbour can select and deliver items on your behalf.
We are able to provide training and support to yourself or your elected person in accessing our physical collections, online catalogues and databases, new information formats and collections to ensure you get the most out of our library.
Alternatively the Housebound library assistant can select items, liaising with our reference librarians to meet your requirements. A volunteer driver can then deliver the items to your home.
Delivery of items takes place once a month on an arranged day, where the driver will also collect your previous loans.
Volunteer drivers ensure the smooth running of our housebound services and we are always eager for helpful people to join the team.
The volunteer driver role involves collecting a housebound bag once a month from an elected branch of Porirua City Library, delivering it to a housebound patron and returning the previous bag to the library.
If you would like more information please contact us on the details below. Please note: As with other public service organisations, all volunteer applicants are required to agree to a background check.
If you are able to make your own way to the library, there are other options available beyond the standard membership as outlined below,
Please contact our Housebound library assistant if you are interested in our housebound service by calling 04 237 1533, emailing email@example.com or speaking to staff at your local library.
