This page explains how to reserve an item from Porirua Library and the costs involved.
At present, borrowers can reserve items from the Porirua Library collection that are currently unavailable because they are on loan, on order, in processing or held at another branch. You also have the option to reserve items from all of the SMART libraries if you opt to become a SMART borrower.
You can reserve books, CDs, DVDs, and videos. You can also reserve magazines, either a single issue or every issue of a particular title. You cannot put a reserve on bestsellers or reference items.
There is no charge for reservations on items from any of the SMART libraries, except for DVDs and CDs, where the normal rates for each SMART library will apply: go to SMART charges.
Check the Library catalogue to see if the item is held and to obtain the details, i.e. author and title. You can place a reservation from the on-line catalogue, if you have a pin number, by entering your ID number and pin in the login boxes. Ask a library staff member to enter a pin number for you if you do not have one.
Alternatively, fill out a reservation card at the front desk and put into the request box or hand to a librarian. You can also email the library or telephone with your request. Notification that your reserved item is available
Once a reservation has been allocated to a borrower, a letter is sent out, or an email is sent if you have given us your email address. A reserved book will be held for 14 days after your notification and a magazine will be held for seven days.
Items can be returned to any of the SMART libraries, including branches, regardless of where they have come from, for no charge.
